形容词不能作状语(单独一个形容词可以作状语吗)
1. Greatly interested, I asked to have a try myself.
2. Delighted, the girls thought up many good ideas.
第1句interested,第2句delighted,是什么词性做什么成份?单独一个形容词能做状语吗?应该不能吧!但如果认为它们是过去分词做状语,但是它们与主语又没有被动的关系,如果认为其前面省略了being而只留下了表语形容词,但是我记得好像只有独立主格时才可以省略being吧?请老师帮忙仔细分析,这里实在搞不懂。
【答】interested 和delighted,都是由过去分词变来的形容词。
1. 因为纯粹的形容词(短语)不是非谓语动词,应加Being,只有如此才变成非谓语动词。
例如:
Being ill, he can’t attend today’s meeting.
Being hungry, they had to look for food.
2. 如果是由过去分词变来的形容词,加不加Being均可,因为分词本身也是非谓语动词。
例如:
(Being) worried about his health, she couldn’t sleep.
(Being) surprised at the news, he kept asking how.
此外,关于单个形容词、还是形容词短语作状语,这不是问题的根本。我们关心的是这个Being 加不加的问题。我的看法是:
如果纯形容词作原因状语,应该加Being。包括独立主格和with 复合结构,也是如此:
Her mother being ill, she couldn't go to school.
With her mother being ill, she couldn't go to school.
