写长辈的短语英文(“老的、年长的、老人”英语表达多一点)

old、elder、elderly 和 senior 这几个单词都有“老的、年长的”含义，但是根据不同的语境，它们在平时生活中的用法是不一样的。

old （可加人和物）

在形容人的时候，old 可以表示“上了年纪的”或者“几岁”。

He is getting old. His health is not as good as before. 他在变老。他的身体没以前好了。

How old is your father? He is sixty years old. 你父亲几岁了？他六十岁了。

2. 在形容名词的时候，old可以表示“老的、旧的、以前的、前任的”。

老房子 old house，旧衣服 old clothes，过时的话题 old topic，前任男友 old boyfriend

I found my old toys in the attic. 我在屋顶阁楼里发现了我的旧玩具。

I went out with friends from university last night. It was just like old times. 昨晚我和大学同学聚会，就像回到了从前一样。

elder 和 elderly 这两个词仅限于描述人。

elder，它是一个正式用语，作为形容词的时候意思是“年长的”，形容“家庭同辈中年龄大一些的那位成员”。

Sarah is my elder sister. Sarah 是我的姐姐。（ elder sister ≈ older sister, 但是elder表长幼之别，两个女孩，elder sister是姐姐； older更强调岁数之别）

elderly ，作为形容词时的意思和 old 是一样的，和 old 的区别在于 elderly 更加礼貌，表示“年迈的、高龄的”。

Sarah is my elderly sister. Sarah 是我年迈的姐姐。（姐姐不仅年龄比我大，而且已经是老年人了。）、

senior 作为形容词的时候它的含义包括“资深的、级别或地位较高的”。

The company is promoting more women into senior manager roles.公司正在提拔更多的女性职员成为高级经理。

Senior pupils are expected to set an example to the younger children.高年级的学生应该给低年级的学生树立榜样。

形容词elder（年长的）和elderly （年迈的、高龄的）是礼貌用语，只适用于形容人。“

形容词senior” 一般形容“级别高的、资历深的”，多数情况下适用于和人相关的场景

老年人怎么说？

old people? >会被认为不礼貌。

elderly people/person 以及the elderly? >也会被认为不礼貌。但elderly这一表达可能会出现涉及老年人的政策及医学文件中。older adult同样多出现在医学文件中。

senior citizens? > 上世纪30年代流行使用过；自上世纪80年代以后使用开始下降。

结合资料查询，有支持使用older people/person的使用者；有支持seniors的使用者。

根据语境，也有使用retired people, people over 50/60/70, people in their 70s.

In Canada, the word “senior” indicates a person is specifically age 65 of older; the term is generally used in a government context, to reference programs, portfolios, and entitlements associated with this benchmark age.
