1. break

(1)break away (from) 突然挣脱; 逃脱脱离,背叛

The prisoner broke away from his guards. 囚犯突然挣脱了警卫。

The people of the province wished to break away and form a new state. 那个省的人们希望能脱离管辖重新建立个州。

(2)break down出故障,抛锚;(身体)垮掉,被搞垮; 分解; (计划、谈判等)的失败; 消除(不良情绪)

The telephone system has broken down. 电话系统已经坏了。

His health broke down under the pressure of work. 在压力之下他身体垮了。

Sugar and starch (淀粉) are broken down in the stomach. 糖和淀粉在胃里面被分解。

Negotiations between the two sides have broken down. 双方的协商失败了。

(3)break in强行闯入; 打断,搅扰

2. bring

(1) bring back带回;把...送回,归还;使回忆起,使想起; 恢复,重新使用

What did you bring the kids back from Italy? 你从意大利给孩子们带回了什么?

Please bring back all the library books by the end of the week. 请在周末前将所有图书馆的书归还。

The photos brought back many pleasant memories. 那些照片给人带来了很多美好的回忆。

Most people are against bringing back the death penalty. 大多数人反对恢复死刑。

(2)bring down使下降;打垮,击败

Generally speaking,increasing supply or decreasing demand can bring down prices. 一般地说,通过增加供给或减少需求可以减低物价。

(5) bring up抚养,养育,培养; 提出(讨论等)

(6) bring about导致,引起,促使

3. burst

(1)burst into闯进,突然破门而入; 突然爆发

Gunmen burst into his home and opened fire. 持枪歹徒突然闯进他家里并开枪射击。

She burst into tears and ran from the kitchen. 她突然哭起来,跑出了厨房。

(2) burst onto sth. 突然在...出现; 突然显现(burst on)

A major new talent has burst onto the literary scene. 文坛突然冒出一位重要的新秀。

(3)burst out突然激动地喊叫; 突然开始(做某事)

“For heavens' sake!" he burst out.“天哪!“他大叫一声。

She burst out crying and ran from the kitchen. 她突然哭起来,跑出了厨房。
