莎翁《哈姆雷特》之金句： To be, or not to be, that is the question

这句话的常见翻译版本是：

“生存还是毁灭，这是一个值得考虑的问题”。

第一，翻译成”生存还是毁灭”，基本再现了原义。只是这样翻译显得偏于平稳中性，无法准确再现哈姆雷特当时头脑中的暴风骤雨。

第二，从字面意思上看，翻译成”值得考虑的问题”，还是说得过去。但是这样翻译却弱化了当时的紧张氛围，无法传达出哈姆雷特彼时的激烈情感，从而与他紧接着的那一长串怨恨交加的独白显得貌合神离。其实，在哈姆雷特那里，to be, or not to be 已经不再是一个简单的“值不值得”的问题，而是一个像鬼魅一样缠绕着他、折磨着他的根本问题。此时的哈姆雷特，大概正向着李清照所指的境界前进—-“生当作人杰，死亦为鬼雄”。
